There are many good books on refining processes. I introduce here only good books on the topic of modeling and simulation of refining processes. They provide theoretical background and illustrated examples on this topic. You can, of course, look up research papers in major Chemical Engineering (CE) journals such as AiChe, CE Science, Computers & CE for more examples.

Remarks:
- A lot of refining processes utilize Fixed Bed Catalytic Reactors such as hydrotreating, hydrocracking, isomerization, catalytic reforming, steam reforming, etc.
- This book provides a full treatment (with illustrated examples) on how to mathematically model a Fixed Bed Catalytic Reactor.
- All the practical issues not discussed in "standard" Reaction Engineering textbooks such as mass and heat transfer resistance in packed bed catalytic reactors, etc are addressed in this book

2. Thermal and Catalytic Processes in Petroleum Refining
